Number of international students at UK universities hits record high

New figures released by UCAS and show the number of international students who have applied to and been accepted by UK universities has hit a record high.

UCAS, the university admissions service, said the total number of non-EU applicants hit 76,380 in 2017, the highest on record and a rise of 2.8% on 2016. The numbers of overseas students accepted on to courses increased by 5%.

Sarah Stevens, head of policy at the Russell Group, which represents 24 leading universities, said: "It is a very positive message that so many talented students from across the globe continue to want to come and study here, attracted by the world-class teaching and research that our universities provide.”
